Memo to Mangini: You are not Bill Bellichick

Posted on: January 23, 2008 12:15 pm

And I dont want you to be a bill bellichick either. So stop acting like him.

In his time with the jets so far, to the media and fans he's acted like a pain in the ***. Like his mentor.

Very very VERY VERY vague on the injury reports (very). Recreating the Lawyer Milloy incident but this time with Pete Kendall.

All in all mangini gets an A for impersonating but an F for being himself. I along with many jets fans were willing to let that go cause of that first year. But now this awful year we had just makes him look really bad. Dude stop acting like you have to live up to somebody and just be yourself. Its ok to do that stuff when you're a superbowl contender but we're not. Right now we're not even winning record contendors at the moment.

Take this offseason to reflect.

Yeah, you sure don't want to be like Coach Bill. Keep going as you are and being 4-12 every season. Bill sure won't lose any sleep over it ... I promise.

The Jets are the "caboose" of the NFL (I'm trying to keep it clean here) - they have the most pathetic and obnoxious fans (your own team apparently doesn't even serve beer any more at games because of it), a perennially awful record, and they play over a toxic waste dump. Woohoo!!  Oh ... and their hypocrite of a coach is a phony and a judas. Sounds like a winning formula to me.

Yeah ...  you and your coach shouldn't be anything like Bill B and the Patriots. LOL.

i meant not to act like a ***** in front of the media. that line had nothing to do with bellichick's sucess in the games.

Memo to Mangini: You are not Bill Bellichick

See that's why Patriots fans should just stay to their own page.  I have to agree that Mangini is very weird in front of the cameras, but if I had one complaint it is that he does not show emotion at all.  He is not like Herm Edwards was and showing that he really cared about the team and the players.  I am sure that he does care, but like BB, he is very cold in his deliveries and he needs to brighten up a bit.

I also love when Patriot fans forget when they were the butt of every joke when it came to the NFL.  They were horribel, but they are just thinking they are the best thing since sliced bread.  You know, the Patriots will go down as one, yes one fo the best teams that ever played.  They still are not up there with the 49ers of the oldschool and the Packers of even older then that.  Their run will come to an end and then they will come back to reality and remember thier good old days of being losers.

Memo to Mangini: You are not Bill Bellichick

Good topic 89, and those press interviews are getting annoying.

I dont think Mangini is actually trying to personify Belichick, or "be" him so to speak. I do think subconsciously he is pulling attributes from files he has in his memory of things that have been successful. I think he just adhered too closely to those attributes and didnt carve out his own niche where he needed to. Learning a system and being in that system for years makes it come to you like second nature, and if the system is one that is successful its hard to veer from that path. Teachings he picked up along the way should be applied as guidelines, not the ten commandments of head coaching.  Some of these guidelines can be applied in any situation and have success, some of them are "case sensitive" that dont fit in everywhere. He had been around BB long enough to buy into his coaching philosophies and mannerisms, and most of those have worked for BB. Mangini is learning that those mannerisms arent accross-the-board perfect blueprints for every coach, or situation.

I dont think Mangini has found HIS actual identity yet when it comes to being a HC, and he is just following some of the same paths that have been imprinted in his memory. He is still very young to the ways and pitfalls of the NFL head coaching fraternity, and I think he needs to stop reverting back to the lessons of yesterday. Its time for him to relax into his own person, in his own situation and continue to grow into the head coach that has his own identity.  Hes not a stupid guy by any means, and I would think he has been keeping mental notes of his own progress to draw and grow from in the future. I hope to see the completed version of "Mangini HC" soon
